Our Story & Innovatiom

The Story of RUXÉ

It started the way most great things do, not with a business plan, but with a conversation.

Two friends, Ruby and Esele, sitting together the way they always did, talking about everything and nothing. Dreams. Frustrations. The kind of late-night honesty that only happens when you trust someone completely. Somewhere in that conversation, a question came up that neither of them could let go of: why are we always waiting for someone else to build the thing we actually need?

So they stopped waiting.

RUXÉ was not born in a boardroom. It was born in that friendship, in the gap between what existed and what they knew women actually deserved. Because for Ruby and Esele, hair had never really been about hair. It was about how you feel when you walk into a room. The confidence that comes from looking exactly how you imagined. The quiet power of a woman who knows she is put together. They wanted to bottle that feeling and make it available to every woman, not just the ones who could afford to spend a fortune chasing it.

So they started building, one decision at a time, one late night at a time.

Our Innovation

While we were building, we kept running into the same problem, one that millions of women across Nigeria and Africa were quietly dealing with every single day, but nobody was solving.

The numbers tell the story clearly. In Nigeria alone, up to 60% of women wear wigs or extensions regularly, creating year-round demand. Across Africa, the wig and hair extensions market is projected to surpass $7 billion by 2030, driven by millions of women for whom synthetic hair is not a luxury but a daily reality. The majority of African consumers prefer synthetic hair wigs and extensions precisely because they are accessible, versatile, and affordable. Synthetic hair is not a compromise — it is the choice of the majority. Research And Markets + 2

And yet nobody had ever made a single product to take care of it properly.

If you have ever worn synthetic hair, you know the moment. A few days in, the magic starts to fade. The hair that looked so full and beautiful when you first put it in begins to tangle, frizz, and fight back every time you try to run your fingers through it. You reach for whatever you have, a leave-in conditioner, a water spray, something, and it either does nothing or makes it worse. Because everything on the market was made for natural hair. Nobody had ever made something specifically for synthetic hair, for the tens of millions of women across Africa who wear it every single day.

We saw that gap and refused to look away from it.

The result was the RUXÉ Synthetic Hair Detangling Spray, the first product of its kind in Africa designed from the ground up for synthetic hair. Not adapted. Not repurposed. Built specifically for the fibre, the texture, and the way synthetic hair actually behaves. One application detangles, softens, reduces frizz, and brings the hair back to life, extending the wear of your wig or braids and protecting the investment you made when you bought it. No residue. No grease. No white cast. Just hair that looks and feels the way it did on day one, for longer.

It was a small bottle solving a very real, very large problem. And the moment other women tried it, they understood immediately.

That response told us everything they needed to know about what RUXÉ was becoming.
